Abilene Chamber Encourages Public to Shop Local

Earlier this week, Governor Abbott announced more openings in phase II of the State’s plan to Re-Open Texas, and many of those openings will begin tomorrow. In light of this news, the Abilene Chamber of Commerce wants to encourage all Abilenians to get out and support local businesses during this time of recovery and reopening.

“Recovery may indeed be the most critical time in this crisis,” said Doug Peters, President & CEO of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce. “Your Chamber encourages all of us to do our respective parts to protect ourselves and our loves ones, but for those of us who are in good health it’s time to get this train back on the tracks.”

In the most recent survey conducted by the Chamber, 25 percent of chamber member businesses who completed the survey reported getting customers to come to their business as one of the most pressing issue for their business over the next six months with 50 percent reporting the overall state of the economy as the most pressing.

“All business is essential business,” said Peters. “Right now, our local restaurants, barbers, retail shops, etc. have never been safer under the new guidelines set in place by the state. If you can, let’s help keep our local businesses alive.”
