It’s SHOWTIME!
Good Monday morning! How about this past weekend? I hope you had a chance to get outside and enjoy a little time in the fresh air. I did and was reminded of one of more than a thousand reasons why I love the city we all call home.
It was prefect. Warm, sunny and even with yesterday’s breeze, I ended up with a case of spring fever that I hope doesn’t go away anytime soon, with exception of perhaps some rain. We can always use some of that.
What really struck me over the weekend is how exponentially unreliable our weather can be this time of year. What’s my reference point? The Texas Farm Ranch & Wildlife Expo, sponsored by Lawrence Hall Abilene. This weekend was our traditional set up time for our volunteers and staff. I’ve been at the Expo Center for this particular show in rain, snow, sleet, freezing rain and massive winds. This year’s show weather will be more akin to a nice round of golf in comparison to years past.
I was out at the Taylor County Expo Center yesterday. We were setting up for the longest running farm and ranch show in Texas, and everything was perfect. The weather, the facility (if you’ve not been to the Expo Center or the Coliseum since it underwent massive improvements, now’s your chance!), everything. And it appears that we’ll have amazing weather continue for us as our exhibitors set up today, and the show kicks into full gear beginning tomorrow morning. We’ll close the show on Wednesday with a little chill in the air, but we’ll take it.

From a wide range of continuing education classes to a agriculture scholarship luncheon on Wednesday that will surely be the talk of the town, this show has something for everyone. Speaking of luncheons, come by to meet our Farm Family of the Year, an important award presented each year to a family who has made agriculture their way of life. The stories behind these winners are amazing. Don’t forget about this year’s speaker, Wyman Meinzer, the official photographer of Texas. The stories behind his work are both entertaining and inspiring.
So beginning on Tuesday at 9am and continuing through Wednesday at 3pm, the TFRWE will be in place, geared up and looking for you. Please do stop in. You’ll be glad you did.
