Dear Chamber member -

I’m writing to you today to let you know that your Chamber, in partnership and communication with the Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District, are working together to minimize the risk to our community from COVID-19, also known as the CoronaVirus.

Currently, there are no known confirmed cases of the virus in our community. We will continue to closely monitor incoming developments, communicate and work with our City officials and experts, and relay the most accurate information for the betterment of the business community.

As of now, there is no call or recommendation by our City officials to stand down on any events in the coming weeks. Should there be a cancellation of events, we will take our direction in accordance with the Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District.

Personally, I encourage you to disregard the growing media hysteria, particularly the growing amount of misinformation, speculation and rumor on social media platforms. Instead, please defer to the trusted sources for information such as www.cdc.gov and our local health department.

We at the Chamber encourage those who don’t feel well to stay at home. Traditional health hygiene is important - hand washing/sanitizing are critically important – as well as maintaining a perimeter of six feet from others when practical. For a full list of resources and best business practices, please click here.

Lastly, if you’re watching the markets, you’re beginning to see that the concerns are impacting our national economy. Let’s all be mindful that the need to support our local businesses has perhaps never been greater. Shop local. Buy local. Support your fellow Chamber members.

Until we learn or are told otherwise, the Chamber will proceed business as usual, extremely mindful of the threat, providing and utilizing hand sanitizer with constant reminders of health hygiene. We will be prepared should the need arise for an alternative plan of action and will keep you updated with information as it is available.

Onward!
