Helpful Tips

To Planning Your Ribbon Cutting

“Let’s host business showers. When a friend starts a business, we all come together, celebrate them and bring resources for their businesses.” – Elon Musk

Let us celebrate you! We’ll bring our Chamber member Redcoats and big red scissors to help mark this momentous occasion free of charge as part of your member benefits! Each business decides where they would like to cut their ribbon. The most common location is the main entrance of the building by a sign that says the business name. However, it can also be stretched across another important location within the business.

Everyone deserves to be celebrated! Especially those who are helping drive our local economy by creating jobs for other Abilenians. By hosting a ribbon cutting, you can:
– Introduce the business community to your business
– Publicize your business within the local community
– Generate possible leads and sales from attendees and those who heard about the Ribbon Cutting

You can help make your ribbon cutting a success by giving thought to:

  • Who will cut the ribbon? The owners or top executives most frequently do the honors, but each business is different and can pick whomever they like.

  • What you wish to share when you speak just before the ribbon is cut. Please limit your speech to three to five minutes.

  • Who will be included in your Ribbon Cutting photo.

  • How you can maximize this program. Consider sending a special invitation to your clients, offer a drawing or raffle to collect business cards to build your database during the ribbon cutting.

  • Refreshments, drinks, door prizes and decorations are all optional and up to you. Many businesses add these extra touches when conducting a public grand opening in conjunction with the ribbon cutting. However, please keep in mind that Ribbon Cuttings generally last only 15 – 30 minutes.

  • If you need to conduct your Ribbon Cutting in Spanish, let us know! We have Redcoats that are bilingual and are ready to serve.

Let’s book it!

Ribbon Cutting Form
Ribbon cuttings must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance in order to provide our volunteer Redcoats with plenty of notice. Requests will be scheduled on a first-come first-served basis. The Chamber will schedule ribbon cuttings Monday - Thursday during the timeframes of 8:30 am - 4:30 pm and Friday 8:30 am - 1:30 pm. This is at the request of our volunteers and so you have the best turnout of Redcoats available to help celebrate. Please reach out to a Chamber team member if your ribbon cutting request doesn't fit this timeframe.
