It’s been a wild year, to say the least.
This time, about a year ago, I recall having a conversation with one of our staff members about a little virus we were just starting to hear more and more about.
A cruise ship had been quarantined and exactly a year ago from this Thursday the coronavirus was officially renamed COVID-19.
While COVID-19 is still around us and its effects on our local economy continue to linger, we were relieved last week when we finally reached the seven-day mark below the ICU capacity for our “zone” as assigned by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
It is our hope that this downward trend continues, and more economic recovery continues to take place for our business community.
And, to help you with the economic uncertainty and to help forecast recovery, your Chamber in partnership with America’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Texas Tech, is pleased to bring you an Economic Outlook Seminar on March 2 featuring renowned economist Dr. Mark Dotzour.
Dr. Dotzour, a former Chief Economist of the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University, will join us in a “fireside chat” where we’ll gain his economic outlook for investors and business decisionmakers. Dr. Dotzour has a way of turning a complex conversation into something that even I can understand!
But before, Dr. Dotzour speaks, we’ll hear from local business leaders on what the local economy has been up to from different representatives of our economy: Jon Loudermilk, Homes By Design; Mike Fernandez, Texas National Bank; Jessica Adams, Vagabond Pizza; Nathan Lowry, Big Country Title. From the housing market, to real estate, to retail, to banking these individuals know their stuff and we’re pleased they’ll be able to join us to help share more on what has been happening in their area of our business community.
