Keeping the bucket full

I'm loving the rain and the cool weather. It reminds me of the season - and all the comes with it.

It feels like fall. Which leads to the holidays. Both are my longtime favorites. Football. Hunting. Being outside. And if we do it right, a big booster shot to our local economy.

When I think of our economy and how it works, all sorts of things fill my mind.

Like the proverbial bucket you've heard me talk about before, and the community's need to continually fill that bucket. And the hole in the bottom of the bucket - with economic impact and value seeping out.

Leakage is inevitable. We have to put more in the top of the bucket than what leaks out the bottom. That's how it works.

Keeping that bucket full presents a challenge.

Whether it's day trip shopping to another community or online shopping, we need to be mindful that shopping local matters, spending local matters even more, and supporting your fellow Chamber members - at least to me - matters most.

Shopping and spending local aren't always easy, but trust me, it's worth it.

We have to navigate construction. The same road construction that our community absolutely hammered the city to take care of. They're doing it. And we're complaining. Funny how that works.

But let's not let our friends and neighbors in business suffer as a result. We need to support them.

I had an awesome weekend with my daughter. We spent Saturday together, shopping and spending and navigating and laughing and loving it. It was easy. It was convenient. And it just felt right.

Plus, I was able to spend much-needed time with my daughter. Bonus!

And admittedly, I'm not much of a shopper. But we all need to do it. Locally.

Our economy needs our support. You'll be surprised at what you'll find. The friends you'll see. The good you'll do.

Thank you for all you do to contribute to community's success. Let's keep after it.

Onward!

Doug
