As our nation pauses to honor Veterans Day tomorrow, the Abilene Chamber of Commerce proudly recognizes the men and women who have served and continue to serve in defense of our country. Here in Abilene, that gratitude runs especially deep.

For more than 70 years, the relationship between Dyess Air Force Base and the Abilene community has been one of a kind. Dyess Airmen and their families are woven into every part of our region’s fabric, including our neighborhoods, schools, churches, and businesses. Their presence strengthens Abilene in countless ways, and our community’s support of them has set a national standard.

Surely you have heard of the Abilene Trophy, awarded each year to the community that shows the greatest support for its local Air Force installation. That recognition originated here in the heart of the Big Country because of the unmatched partnership between Dyess and Abilene.

The Abilene Chamber’s Military Affairs Council (MAC) continues to serve as the cornerstone of that relationship. A collaborative effort between the City of Abilene, the Abilene Chamber, the Development Corporation of Abilene, and nearly 300 dedicated individuals and businesses, the MAC works tirelessly to advocate for mission growth and quality of life for our Airmen and their families. From policy discussions in Washington to community celebrations here at home, the MAC ensures that Dyess and those who serve always know Abilene stands firmly behind them.

As we celebrate Veterans Day tomorrow, we invite you to join us in demonstrating our appreciation for all who wear the uniform, whether active duty at Dyess, serving in the local Reserves or National Guard, or veterans who now call Abilene home. We owe each of them, and their families, a debt of gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy every day.
