One of the things that makes Abilene special is that when challenges arise, people step up.
Whether it's serving on a nonprofit board, mentoring a young professional, volunteering for a community project, or helping guide the future of a local business, our city is filled with individuals who choose to lead. They don't always have the loudest voices or the biggest titles. They simply care about their community and are willing to invest their time and talents to make it better.
That spirit of service is what has helped shape Abilene into the community we know today.
At the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, we believe the future of our city depends on developing the next generation of leaders. That's why we're excited to announce that applications are now open for the next class of Leadership Abilene.
For more than four decades, Leadership Abilene has helped participants gain a deeper understanding of our community while building meaningful relationships with fellow leaders from across the Big Country. Through monthly, full-day sessions, participants explore key topics such as economic development, education, healthcare, military affairs, local government, workforce development, and more.
Even if you've lived in Abilene your entire life and feel like you know the community inside and out, I can assure you that Leadership Abilene will give you a new perspective. Time and again, participants tell us they discovered parts of our community they had never seen before, gained a deeper appreciation for the organizations that serve our region, and learned something new about the place they call home.
The program offers a behind-the-scenes look at the organizations, industries, and people who help move Abilene forward every day. Participants leave with a broader perspective of our community, stronger leadership skills, and connections that often last a lifetime.
Leadership Abilene is designed for individuals who want to grow professionally, become more engaged in the community, and make a lasting impact where they live and work. Employers also benefit by investing in emerging and established leaders who return with new ideas, valuable relationships, and a deeper understanding of our region.
The strength of Abilene has always been its people. By investing in leadership development today, we're helping ensure our community remains strong for generations to come.
If you, a coworker, or someone on your team is ready to take the next step in their leadership journey, I encourage you to apply.
Applications are now open and will be accepted through June 30, 2026.
