Last week, the Abilene Chamber of Commerce had the distinct honor of hosting the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives (TCCE) Annual Conference, welcoming nearly 300 chamber professionals from communities across the state.
Hosting this conference was especially meaningful because it marked the first time in more than 30 years that the event has been held in Abilene. It was an incredible opportunity to showcase our city, our businesses, our attractions, and the hospitality that makes Abilene such a special place.
For several days, chamber executives and staff from across Texas gathered in Abilene to learn from industry leaders, share ideas, discuss the future of chambers, and build relationships with peers from communities large and small. Beyond the educational sessions and networking opportunities, the conference gave us a unique chance to tell Abilene's story and highlight everything that makes our community thrive.
An event of this size and significance would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of our entire Chamber family. Team members from the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, the Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council, and the Military Affairs Council worked together for months to curate meaningful experiences and ensure our guests felt welcomed from the moment they arrived. Their hard work, creativity, and attention to detail were evident throughout the week.
The conference officially kicked off Monday evening with a Welcome Party at The Grace Museum. The event was a tremendous success thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, Abilene Environmental Landfill and Ben E. Keith Beverages, as well as the many volunteers who helped make the evening possible. Guests enjoyed networking, local entertainment, and an authentic taste of Abilene hospitality in one of our community's most treasured cultural venues.
One of our goals throughout the week was to highlight local businesses and entrepreneurs. To help accomplish that, we partnered with the Abilene Farmers Market and invited local vendors to participate in a special market experience, giving attendees the opportunity to shop local and take a piece of Abilene home with them.
Another conference highlight was an unforgettable evening at 201 Mesquite, where Kirk House delivered a performance that had the room energized and entertained. It was a perfect example of the talent and culture that thrive in our community.
The week concluded with the TCCE Excellence Awards Banquet at D&W Underground, sponsored by First Financial Bank. The banquet provided an opportunity to celebrate excellence within the chamber profession and recognize individuals who have dedicated themselves to strengthening their organizations and communities.
We were especially proud to see several members of the Abilene Chamber team recognized during the conference. Ashley DiMauro was honored for five years of service to the chamber profession, and Jennifer Kent was recognized for ten years of service. Both milestones reflect years of dedication to our organization, our members, and the Abilene community, and we are grateful for the contributions each has made along the way.
The evening culminated with a truly special moment for our organization when our President and CEO, Doug Peters, was presented with the prestigious Marvin Hurley Award. Considered one of the highest honors in the chamber profession, the award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions through leadership, innovation, advocacy, organizational development, and service to chambers of commerce at the local, state, and national levels.
For those of us who have the privilege of working alongside Doug every day, the recognition was both inspiring and well deserved. His passion for our community, commitment to chamber excellence, and unwavering leadership have left a lasting impact not only on Abilene but on the chamber profession across Texas and the United States.
As we reflect on the week, we are filled with gratitude. Thank you to our sponsors, volunteers, local businesses, vendors, community partners, and Chamber team members who helped make this event possible. Hosting the TCCE Annual Conference was an incredible opportunity to showcase the best of Abilene, and we could not be prouder of the way our community came together to welcome chamber leaders from across the state.
After more than three decades, it was an honor to bring this conference back to Abilene, and we are confident that the relationships built, experiences shared, and memories created here will leave a lasting impression for years to come.
