Every community has those people.
They're the first to volunteer when help is needed. They quietly serve behind the scenes without expecting recognition. They mentor, encourage, lead, and make Abilene stronger simply because they care about this community and the people who call it home.
Chances are, someone came to mind as you read those words.
Since 1946, the Abilene Chamber of Commerce has had the privilege of recognizing individuals whose selfless service has left a lasting impact on our city through the Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award. It is one of our community's most meaningful traditions because it celebrates the people who make Abilene a better place, not for recognition, but because they believe in serving others.
Today, I am excited to announce that nominations are officially open for the 2026 Outstanding Citizen of the Year.
This award recognizes an individual whose influence has made a significant and lasting difference in Abilene through civic involvement, volunteerism, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life in our community. Whether their impact has been made over the past year or through a lifetime of service, we want to hear their story.
One of the greatest things about this award is that it starts with you. Every nomination is an opportunity to shine a light on someone whose efforts may otherwise go unnoticed. It's a chance to say, "Your work matters, and our community is better because of you."

Nominations are open now and must be submitted by Friday, July 31. The 2026 Outstanding Citizen of the Year will be recognized during the Abilene Chamber's Annual Membership Meeting & Awards Celebration on Thursday, September 17.
