When people think about the work of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, they may think about our events, advocacy efforts, leadership programs, ribbon cuttings or the many initiatives happening throughout the year.
What they may not always see are the people behind that work.
Our volunteers are truly the ones who make it happen.
Throughout the Chamber, we have task forces, committees, councils, boards and countless individuals who willingly give their time and expertise to help move our organization and our community forward. These are business owners, executives, young professionals and community leaders who already have full calendars and plenty of responsibilities of their own. Yet, they continue to show up.
They show up to meetings. They bring ideas to the table. They ask hard questions. They make phone calls, open doors, welcome new members and step in when something needs to get done.
And they do it because they care about Abilene.
As President and CEO, I have the privilege of seeing that commitment up close, and it inspires me. I am continually reminded that the strength of our Chamber isn't found in one person or one office. It is found in people who believe their time and talents can make a difference and are willing to put both to work.
Some of our volunteers have served the Chamber for years. Others are just beginning to get involved. Each brings a different perspective, experience and set of skills to the table, and our organization is stronger because of it.
The Chamber staff may help put the pieces together, but our volunteers help give the work its direction, energy and purpose. They challenge us to think bigger, serve better and keep looking for ways to strengthen Abilene's business community.
So, to every person serving on a task force, committee, council or board, and to every volunteer who has answered the call when we needed a helping hand: thank you.
You are not simply helping the Chamber put on programs or accomplish goals. You are helping shape the future of this community.
And from where I sit, that's pretty inspiring.
